Question 7

Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

I feel that we have learnt quite a lot about camera shots and editing on the macs. The preliminary was
good but we had a few problems shooting in school with slt’s radios going off
and students walking by but we overcame this by shooting the scene again. The
actors weren’t completely convincing whether we were smiling or just did thing
to slow. One sequence of footage was difficult to films as it was hard to not
laugh as it was quite a hilarious part we did do it properly and that is the
one you she there.

As you can see here I was smiling in this clip although we had to do this scene
over and over again. This was the best we could get it.  The setting wasn’t great here as there was a
lot of stuff you wouldn’t actually have in an office. After learning about the
place to film we learnt how important the shot actually was to make the piece
look realistic. We have also learnt about continuity editing and using
blackouts and how long the duration should be for each one.

We used a video camera, tripod and the macs to edit our movie and film it. We didn’t know much about the macs and so we used a guide given to us by our teacher and we fiddled about
and learnt how to use the macs for the editing and we made our prelim task using
some of the features on imovie. We learnt how to used a black out in our
thriller as we wasn’t quite sure how they worked in the prelim task. The
problems we face with our thriller is the battery life on the video camera it
made the filming difficult as we had to stop at lunch and charge it up for 30
minutes which was valuable filming time another problem we faced was getting
around we had to inlist the services of someone with a vehicle as non of us
could drive. The hours of the day also made filming difficult as we didn’t have
many hours to film when the daylight was at maximum light.
